Taconic Golf Club voted #1 public golf course in Massachusetts
Golf Magazine recently announced the top 100 golf courses “you can play”. Taconic is listed as the best in the state of Massachusetts and number 41 in the nation.
Golf Magazine October 2011 issue also recognizes Taconic for providing one of the best “19th” holes in the country.
The Taconic Golf Club has been rated one of the top collegiate courses in the United States. Of the 375 courses judged by the Boston Globe, Taconic was voted number one in scenic beauty in the state. When you combine this with Taconic’s superb playing conditions, you’ll enjoy one of golf’s most pleasurable golfing experiences. Perhaps the best feature is that the club is only a ten-minute walk from anywhere on campus. While the land that Taconic Golf Club occupies is owned by Williams College, an independent Board of Directors oversees the daily operation.
Taconic Golf Club has recently revitalized the course originally designed by Wayne Stiles of Stiles & Van Kleek in 1927. Renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse of Hanse Golf Course Design Inc. was retained for the renovation project, which was completed in the summer of 2009.

Severe Weather Warning Policy: our club has a storm and lightning detection system which is monitored during the hours of operation of the Golf Shop. In advance of severe weather, we manually activate sirens which are located on the snack shed of the 10th tee and the maintenance building by the 16th green which is a signal for players to seek shelter/clear the course. The college has a similar detection devise located on Weston Field (the college football field adjacent to the golf course) that measures when conditions may be conducive to lightning forming and their system is automated. It may sound prior to our system because it measures conditions, while ours measures actual lightning strikes. Their siren sounds like a car horn and is quite different from our sound – players can use their discretion in responding to their warning system.
PLEASE NOTE: after 7:00 pm daily (closing time for the Golf Shop), players should respond to the college’s Weston Field system since there will be nobody in the Golf Shop to monitor severe weather conditions.
